Why am I not surprised?
Well, we had Grease rehearsal the other day. Jeff and Nick even did the Greased Lightning dance, only the girls weren't there, so Nick filled in. :D He did sashays, shimmies, the whole shebang! It was hilarious!
But on to my ranting. Now, Ms. Downey is a fine director, and a good stage manager, but god help me, she cannot cast.
Granted, she had few good actors to work with.
See, there are certain people in the drama program that are now referred to as 'Veterans of the theatre'. Myself, Jeff, Nick, and Megan are the only ones of these left. The title simply refers to the fact that we have been in a stage production before.
Now, Ms.Downey obviously casted us because she knew we could sing (Kinda), act, and were professional-behaving actors. (We listen to herm we pay attention, we write down our blocking, etc.)
Unfortunately, the ones with the leading roles are NOT veterans of the theatre. In fact, many of them are...well, you know there's a difference between actors who can sing, and singers who can act, right? (Myself being the former) Well, Ms. Downey casted singers who can NOT act! I'm serious! No emotion whatsoever!
On top of that, we started singing the other day, and myself, Jeff, Nick, and Megan were the only ones who actually seemed to have listened to the songs!
One part was really cool too. :D During the Alma Mater parody, Nick and I looked at each other, and threw our scripts down. We totally got into that song. It was so much fun.
Meanwhile, more than half the cast was struggling along, eyes glued to the lyrics.
It makes me relieved everytime I realize that I have Interaction rehearsal that night too. A sanctuary, if you will.
Oh, and I'm still obsessed with Zim. Cya! :D
Love, Kendra.
